Historical notes

Castiglione Falletto It is a medieval village located in the heart of the Barolo area, at an altitude of 350 meters and since 2014 it has been part of the site that became a UNESCO heritage site.
The name derives from the Latin "castrum" which means fortress, castle while Falletto was added only after the 15th century in honour of the powerful Falletti family who had possessions in much of the Bassa Langa.
The first fortified nucleus arose with the construction of the central tower, probably before the year 1000 and the castle was then built around it.
From the 12th century Castiglione Falletto became part of the Marquisate of Saluzzo and only in 1601 did it pass under Savoy control.
In 1645 the new bell tower was built, in the early 1700s the
"Community house", now the seat of the municipal library, and the church of S. Lorenzo is expanded.
In 1817 Castiglione Falletto returned under the control of the Diocese of Alba together with the other towns of Langa and Roero.
Carlo Vassallo di Castiglione purchased the castle in 1870 and carried out major renovations. The manor is still owned by the same family.
Around the village there is a walkway called "strada del fossato" which allows you to admire a 360° panorama of the surrounding hills.
The competition takes place in the oratory of the Confraternity dedicated to St. Anna, patron saint of Castiglione Falletto together with St. Lorenzo.
