Background

Castiglione Falletto it is a medieval village located in the heart of the Barolo area, at an altitude of 350 meters and since 2014 it has been part of the site that has become a UNESCO heritage site.
The name derives from the Latin "castrum" which means fortress, castle while Falletto was added only after the 15th century in honor of the powerful Falletti family who had possessions in much of the Lower Langa.
The first fortified nucleus arose with the construction of the central tower, probably before the year 1000 and the castle was then built around it.
From the 12th century Castiglione Falletto became part of the Marquisate of Saluzzo and only in 1601 did it come under Savoy control.
In 1645 the new bell tower was built, in the early 18th century the
"Community House", now home to the municipal library, and the church of S. Lorenzo was expanded.
In 1817 Castiglione Falletto returned under the control of the Diocese of Alba together with the other towns of Langa and Roero.
Carlo Vassallo di Castiglione purchased the castle in 1870 and carried out important renovation works. The manor is still owned by the same family.
Around the town there is a walkway called "strada del fossa" which allows you to admire a 360° panorama of the surrounding hills.
The competition takes place in the oratory of the Confraternity named after S. Anna, patron saint of Castiglione Falletto together with S. Lorenzo.
